Lara-Jane Stewart is a mixed media and ceramic artist, living and working on Gubbi Gubbi country, Sunshine Coast, Australia.

She is also a singer/songwriter, mother, passionate meditator and "dreamer of dreams".

Endlessly fascinated by nature, our human-ness, the Universe, consciousness, and the patterns of connection between everything, Lara-Jane's passion is exploring all of this through her artwork, songwriting and more.

Just a little peek at the larger piece I’ve been quietly working on - part of my 100 Days Project that’s been unfolding over the past few weeks, and of course just my ongoing art practice as a whole - ever-evolving and continually exploring the process of dancing with intuition in the art-making journey.

This piece is close to my heart.
It’s about the quiet magic of nature… the space between things… and the wonder of leaves on a single tree - so many, so easily overlooked, yet each one precious.
Each a small miracle - a part of the whole.

Hi, I’m Lara — intuitive artist, creative guide, and current traveller of the 100 Day Project path.

If you’re new here, welcome. If you’ve been following along for a while, thank you for walking beside me through this season of creative devotion.

The last piece I shared here was from Day 35. Since then, the project has been quietly shifting — not ending, but evolving.

I took a short trip away a couple of weeks ago, and during that time I focused solely on the breathwork and meditation aspect of the practice. When I returned home, I found myself still craving that inward rhythm — the slowness, the spaciousness, the deeper listening.

So for the past two weeks, I’ve continued the ritual — starting with meditation, then just working mostly on one large artwork that’s still in progress (for an upcoming exhibition), and occasionally on smaller experiments or journalling. I’ll be sharing a preview of that big piece with you very soon.

So while it may have looked quiet here, the work has continued — just more privately, more spaciously, more soulfully.

This project has become less about output and more about presence.

Less about sharing everything in real time, and more about staying close to what’s sacred.

This weekend marks a new chapter *visibly* in the project — as the shift I’ve been feeling internally and flowing with in the studio now begins to show up on the page.

Day 30/100 🌿💜

#the100dayproject

Reflecting on this practice at the 30 day mark… it is interesting to notice how much the work keeps evolving all the time, as I continue to surrender to the unknown. The “not knowing” of what I’m going to render each time. Sometimes I just begin an artwork by picking up a form I’m moved by or the colours I feel like… sometimes it’s concept, form or element I enjoyed another day and just allow myself to keep exploring further if the urge is there… Sometimes the artwork flows before the journaling and sometimes afterwards... It may relate visually in a really obvious way or it may not at all (to me anyway! 😁).

The work, as ever, really is in the practice of surrendering and the intending together in concert... The flexing and relaxing of those “interior” muscles as I move through the practice… relaxing my personal will and logical/analytical/thinking mind OR flexing it for a bit… likewise my intuition and sense of inspiration, as well as my artistic/design instincts or kind of my artistic “muscle memory” if you like.

This is how it always is really in the way I tend to create artwork in general… but doing this practice so regularly in this particular way, I can see offers me the opportunity to really hone in, pay attention and become even more familiar with the whole process that is unfolding each time. To observe and realise things like when it is harder? Easier? More or less enjoyable? More or less impactful on me? Effective (if that can even be measured - I’m not sure how much it can)… Transformative? Energising? Meaningful? And more.

I look forward to observing and realising more about the meaning-making as I go, and the shifting between the different languages of translating or reading/speaking the information of different frequencies 💫💕 or the coding/decodinging processes for us as diverse human beings.

This piece I created during Art Jam in February. Since then I have added just a few little finishing touches and it will soon be on display as part of a group show associated with an artist’s workshop running at the @butterfactoryartscentre during April. I titled this piece, “I Remember (A Prayer With The Leaves)”.

Bringing the piece together involved really an exquisite time deep in reverie, feeling the energy of the leaves and trees, contemplating, meditating and blessing them and being blessed in return. Hence the title. I really was left feeling so much more deeply connected to the trees and plant realm from the experience.

I might perhaps share some of the words from the text part of the artwork sometime, but it’s not exactly one long piece of consecutive prose. It’s very much like a prayer from the heart that sort of shifts between words or thought form and pure feeling, and then a blend of both. It also expresses both the feeling or blessing from my heart and the feeling or blessing from the trees, kind of mixed in together. But I think it would be nice to share some of at some point 😌 Anyway, hope you enjoy 💚

glistening with new life and potential

All newness and innocence and trust and hope and safety and freedom at once

Might it feel like the peace of falling to sleep when all is well in your heart

Might it feel like a soft, warm ray of sunlight, soaking gently into your skin

Might it feel like a soft, warm ray of sunlight, soaking gently into your skin

Might it feel like a smile, a giggle, a peel of laughter
the feel of sharing your joy with ease

Might it feel like the grace of the breath in your lungs
helping your heart to beat

Maybe it feels like violet and pink
And indigo and clouds of gold

Billowing and swirling inside your cells
Bringing balance and vibrance untold

Maybe it feels like a song in your heart
A melody or a tone

Or just one exquisite, never-ending chord
That feels like “welcome home”

Maybe it feels like a faint, but unwavering
irrepressible knowing deep down

That there was never anything more you could do, or say, or think, or become

To be enough to be LOVED in this life

Than to just simply have BEEN at all.

Day 19/100

The artwork for day nineteen was inspired by my journal writing that talked about the experience of beauty and in particular as we may witness or perceive it expressed in nature, but of course everywhere and anywhere. The sense we have of certain colours, textures or forms being “too beautiful for words”, “heavenly” or “otherworldly”… or a sunset across the water for example so beautiful it makes us cry… as if we were touching “heaven” or it were touching us. Of course this is not limited to something visual in nature, it may be music or poetry, or someone dancing, architecture, a life being saved, suffering being eased, words of encouragement or affirmation so loving it moves a heart to tears… a warm hug that makes you feel like everything is ok… the look of true compassion in someone’s eyes… a hand on a hand, or a shoulder to let someone know they’re not alone, that kind of presence that bears the unbearable weight of grief with another and somehow makes it lighter… The kind of beauty that humbles us, that awes us, that makes us feel like LIFE is beautiful and full of meaning… maybe even in the midst of brokenness or what is seemingly lost forever… the kind of beauty that raises our frequency and brings us somehow a little more to life.

💜 I had a vision of these colours in my meditation, so I followed that in creating the artwork.

I was reflecting on this sweet little pot I created toward the end of last year, around the same time I was creating pieces for my body of work “In My Nature”.

It actually began its journey as a teapot, which you can see evidence of… it was one of the teapots I was producing in preparation for the Exit Through The Teapot exhibition this year, but while tidying up my studio late one evening when this pot was only drying still, well before it first firing, I made the fatal error of lifting it up by its handle to move it 🫣 and of course it broke off as it wasn’t yet ready to be held by the handle!!! I managed to catch it before it hit the ground, but nevertheless it was no longer destined to be a teapot.

I shelved it then for a while and later when I had the inspiration I ground and sanded it all back to its simple pot form again and began reimagining my surface design.

My inspiration was this concept of the subtle realms of nature we experience in our human consciousness, such as the fae realms for example, that we perceive either directly with our regular senses - sight, sound, touch - or with our subtler senses of intuition/psychic connection and so on, or perhaps even just in our imagination.

This piece I called “Flora’s Secret” and I loved it so much. It surprised and delighted me in how it turned out from its final firing and was one of my favourite pieces I produced during that time. I was tempted to keep it for myself 😁 but chose to donate it to the @butterfactoryartscentre fundraising raffle on during the Eclectica exhibition. I don’t know where it found its forever home in the end, but I hope it’s bringing someone somewhere some joy and perhaps a little magic too ✨☘️😊💜

All kinds of music, far beyond the literal kind we think of as “song” or what we can hear as sound… the “music” of our being we can produce especially from our greatest states of love, wholeness, coherence and balance. Everything from beautiful ideas, to beautiful relationships, to beautiful constructions, systems and solutions, to beautiful words or actions of love, to beautiful feelings, prayers and energetic healing of all kinds… to of course, works of art of all kinds too…

That music of our being that is essentially moving us or others toward wholeness, higher order, syntropy… that is life-giving in nature 🎶✨💜

Imagine eyes that see you now, in all your grown up wonder, but STILL with the same eyes that watched you grow in every moment to here.

Imagine that everything you think is unloveable about yourself, not good enough, some kind of flaw or failing, is, to these eyes, simply just you still learning about the world.

Day 17/100

So it turned out that the artwork from day 16 had, not only a part TWO, but a part THREE as well 💛

This piece I really had zero idea in the beginning what was unfolding, but just went with it 🥰 Once I could see the two halves of the leaf together it looked like a human heart to me. And the little filaments coming off of it with gold felt like the energy of love radiating out.

I got the idea since it had two halves, what if there was something inside when you opened them up… what would that be like?

I saw this one little dried flower I had collected that reminded me of a Tahitian Tiare flower… That made me think of a part in one of my meditations from Dr Joe Dispenza - Blessing Of The Energy Centres - where he says as you’re blessing your heart centre and practising opening it up: “let your heart bloom like a flower”… so I had this feeling that maybe I could create some sort of flower artwork and that could be resting behind the two halves of the leaf-heart waiting to be discovered.

It felt like it would be beautiful surrounded by gold. That, to me, connected with the little “energy packets” of love radiating out from the heart… sort of suggesting that abundance or unlimited amount of love that resides deep within the human heart 🫀✨🥰💜💜💜

There is a piece of writing that goes with this artwork too that I will definitely aim to share in an additional post hopefully tomorrow 🙏😊

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the experience of this piece and that it maybe reminds you of how amazing and beautiful YOUR human heart is in its capacity for love ✨ Even in all it’s apparent frailty at times. No matter how much it breaks, or aches or fears or grieves or rages or feels hopeless or closed forever… our heart can always open back up, it can always be restored and love can always flow through it again, because love is generated from and living WITHIN it ❤️❤️❤️

The Strongest Force In The Universe

This is one of my sculptures showing as part of the Encircle Exhibition at @butterfactoryartscentre this month.

This woman is known to me, and she is also a hundred million women or more I’ve never met.

Here she is depicted with child… her heart broken, body weak, hands and feet immobilised… she has no business trying to fight against the forces that are ready to drag her under completely and take her life… but it is not a fight with anything EXTERNAL. That fight is passed and it is a fight on the INTERNAL frontier now, the emotional realm within… a fight with despair itself.

To hold on she realises she must let go. She must stop fighting against the pain and the loss, the reality of the devastation and the desire to escape it. She must make the decision to go on and LIVE despite an unbearable reality.

It is impossible it seems… And yet she chooses.

She chooses LIFE.

She relaxes the fight in her body, and with eyes closed, head tilted back, she surrenders…

To the devastation… to the waves of grief and hopelessness… she lets them wash over her and inundate her being…

She breathes, not so much through her mouth or her lungs while the waves wash over, but through her heart…

And in the midst of the chaos she focuses on one thing… she wills her heart to open and allows LOVE to flow.

While her body rests, Love is pulling her being from the forces of grief and endless pain. Love is pouring back into the veins of her body, the muscle fibres, the cells, flooding the stagnant pools of apathy and futility… reviving them with the waters of hope and possibility, the glistening seeds of meaning…

Angels of all the realms waiting to tend her being swoop in with her permission and weave their golden and rainbow threads of light throughout her until she rises gently from the ashes… a Phoenix.

She may die this small death again, but as many times as she surrenders to love, she will rise again filled with more Love, until all she IS is Love.

This is the story of my artwork and the power of the heart.

Day 12/100

As I write this, the heavy rains seem to have begun to set in where we are. Just a couple of nights ago though as the wild weather from the cyclone raged on just a couple of hours south, the sky above us here was mostly clear and full of stars with a brightly shining half moon. Every now and then some clouds would drift by obscuring the moon and then they would be gone, the sky totally clear again and stars for days. It was exquisite. I looked up for a long time and drank it in. There was something different and magical about the air, although I couldn’t really describe it in words, and everything seemed to be in high resolution.

This clearly made its way into day twelve’s artwork and reflections. Feeling the connections between the stars and us and all that exists on Earth. A sky full stars within a leaf or a seed... A sky full of stars within you and me… Like the “universe in a single atom”…

I found an app to help me transform this original image of my artwork above into an expression of the negative as well, which looks amazing in contrast, so I will share it too in another post.

Just a couple of nights ago though as the wild weather from the cyclone raged on just a couple of hours south, the sky above us here was mostly clear and full of stars with a brightly shining half moon. Every now and then some clouds would drift by obscuring the moon and then they would be gone, the sky totally clear again and stars for days. It was exquisite. I looked up for a long time and drank it in. There was something different and magical about the air, although I couldn’t really describe it in words, and everything seemed to be in high resolution.

This clearly made its way into day twelve’s artwork and reflections. Feeling the connections between the stars and us and all that exists on Earth. A sky full stars within a leaf or a seed... A sky full of stars within you and me… Like the “universe in a single atom”…

I found an app to help me transform this original image of my artwork above into an expression of the negative as well, which looks amazing in contrast, so I will share it too in another post.

Day 11/100

Day eleven of my #the100dayproject I was reflecting in my journal writing on the concept of “PAUSE”. Of course arising from the experience of Cyclone Alfred approaching this week. Though in constant motion itself, it has induced, interestingly, a degree of pause for many people it seems.

So I have wondered… What can a pause do… A space in between motion…

When I do this creative practice/ritual that is part of my 100 days project, I begin every time with a breathing meditation and it involves a PAUSE at the top of the “in” breath and an even longer PAUSE again at the bottom of the “out” breath.

A very common basic breathing technique essentially, and in this case, two deliberate pauses in the course of one regular breath cycle.

In this case what the pause does is help communicate to the brain the message that will help it switch on the parasympathetic nervous system, what we know as the rest and repair response. Depending on what you add to this initial breathing pattern as I do in my practice, such as feeling gratitude in your heart or the feelings of care and compassion and so on, increasing and sustaining these elevated feelings for some time, then a whole host of other beneficial chemicals (hormones) can be released in addition and a further cascade of positive responses triggered throughout the body.

So, I wonder…

A pause…

A kind of collective pause… in between collective motion…

Then, collective feelings of gratitude 🙏 for what didn’t come to pass for oneself.

Collective feelings of care and compassion 🙏 for what has come to pass for others.

Collective feelings of appreciation 🙏 for each other, for what we have, for the Earth, the wonder of Nature…

Could a cascade of positive responses be triggered throughout the body of a collective in this way?…

Could the Earth be attempting to restore homeostasis constantly… healing itself… and trying to heal us too 💜 in a million different ways, just like our bodies? But with an intelligence that we can just barely comprehend?

…I wonder.

Asking questions, wondering, opening up… feeling with Nature as it is expressed as everything from: people, to plants, to animals, rocks, sand and soil, rivers, oceans, wind, rain and more… Practising feeling compassion therefore, in so many different directions as I consider the broad concept of “Nature”, I do find to be so very powerful. Opening my awareness further, expanding my heart and deepening my care, even if I already thought I felt a lot.

So the journey continues, ever deepening 🌀✨💙

No surprise I suppose that the way of water and air seems to be swirling around in my consciousness, as a small ocean of water is getting ready to pour from the skies with gusto where we live… this poem arose within my creative practice for day nine of the #100dayproject along with this artwork ✨💧✨

Day 7/100

I spent a good portion of Day 7 visiting with my nan who was taken to emergency, very ill with respiratory problems and other complications. So I prioritised doing the meditation parts of my practice. I began the process of creating this reel so I could share some of the deeply beautiful and uplifting words that have been flowing from my journaling process as part of my daily creative ritual project, and just completed it today.

The artwork that I’m creating in the video is one I made in 2023 as part of another very “leafy” series, and the title of it is, “Going With The Flow”. Rather apt really.

I’m not sure what the coming week will bring, from the possible cyclone hitting where we live and how that will be, to my nanna’s health and more, but such is life - full of unknowns.

I’m grateful, endlessly grateful for so much and for these words that have flowed through also. The invitation they are to me to remember all the miracles everywhere around us and within us. How the smallest thing like our own smile is a miracle and how it can be a prayer 🙏 It felt like a prayer looking into my nana’s eyes and smiling as she rested in her hospital bed. It feels like a prayer right now…

Day 7/100
