About the artwork:
The gifts we can receive from the natural world all around us are so abundant. From the fresh air we breathe, to the rain that falls, the sun that warms us and promotes growth and life, to the bees and other insects helping pollinate and the bird spreading fruit and seeds with their activities. The more still we become, often, we are able to notice more and more and more, until it feels almost endless.
Sometimes we are fortunate to share precious moments of profound presence with wildlife, many times from a distance, but every now and then, right up close as well. And when we do it tends to be quite moving.
That was the case for me with this kookaburra. It came to sit nearby and we gazed into each other’s eyes for what seemed like an eternity. I was able to observe every tiny detail and I was in awe of it.
I titled this painting “Peace In My Soul”, as that was the gift I received from our encounter.
It was a delight to be able to honour this beautiful bird through this painting and to share some of that peace in my soul on to others in the process.
